In response to the Audit report and the Mayor’s comments “there will need to be cooperation from labour unions because quite a few of the supervisory positions fall under the union”
CUPE Local 30 believes that this audit report reinforces what the unions have been saying for the last few years.
The management of the City of Edmonton has grown significantly.
We don’t believe that the comments the mayor made are correct. CUPE 30 has been having cutbacks to our membership for a few years now.
Also, the City of Edmonton has the ability to hire and terminate employees. This is a management right and thus not covered in our collective agreement. If there were proposed changes to conditions while working, wages for example, then that would need to be negotiated.”
